There Was...

There was
This girl
At the
Airport

I kept
Looking
At her

While
Admiring
Her
Divine
Beauty, I
Kept asking
God:
Why didn't You
Make me like her?

(Not only this girl, there are many such girls I've encountered in my life in all sorts of places like schools, colleges, shopping malls, tourist buses, etc and seeing their beauteous looks, I've often asked God, why did He leave me out of His beautiful garden of wonderful women? ;-) Though, it's a miracle that even after 16 years of marriage, my hubby still finds me Beautiful, even though I've never seen myself as beautiful but just Presentable enough. I guess, the difference in our opinion is to do with the perception that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder; so what I may see as beautiful, others may not and vice-versa. That's a lot of beauty talk for now. Bye for Now, Aparna :-)

Today

Today while exchanging our regular weekly news, I heard from my parents that one of our elderly close relations has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

After my phone-conversation, I immediately wrote to that relation's son, expressing my deep anguish on hearing this sad news and mentioning about this book that I have in my home, asking him to procure it as soon as possible so that he has all the guidance he needs in coping with his father's tragic illness.

Thought of blogging about it also, so that others who are unaware of this treasure-trove of knowledge pertaining to Alzheimer's, can now access it.

It's called

The 36-Hour Day (Fifth Edition)

available in The Book Depository

and also on Amazon

It's a Family Guide to Caring for People who have Alzheimer's Disease, Related Dementias, and Memory Loss

Here is what its Blurb says:

When someone in your family suffers from Alzheimer disease or other related memory loss diseases, both you and your loved one face immense challenges. For over thirty years, this book has been the trusted Bible for families affected by dementia disorders. This guide features the latest information on the causes of dementia, managing the early stages of dementia, the prevention of dementia, and finding appropriate living arrangements for the person who has dementia when home care is no longer an option.

This book has the following info:

The basic facts about dementia
How to deal with problems arising in daily care -- meals, exercise, personal hygiene, and safety
How to cope with an impaired person's false ideas, suspicion, anger, and other mood problems
How to get outside help from support groups, friends, and agencies
Financial and legal issues you must address.

If any of your friends or acquaintances have been afflicted by Dementia or Alzheimer's, you can suggest this book to their near 'n' dear ones, so that they are well-prepared to cope with this debilitating disease which robs oneself of precious memories.

That's all I had to share with you for now.

Tk Care,
Aparna

Romantic

He told me
To be
Romantic
As before

I told him
I've forgotten
How to write
Think and feel
As before

Just

Just like
People
Get so
Used to
Their
Bodies
I'm so
Used to
You, that
Come rain
Or shine,
Pain or
Pleasure,
I want to be
Always with
You...

Blessed

Blessed
Are those
Who want to
Relive their
Childhood,
I don't

Maybe,
Childhood
Was never
A blessing
For me...

(dedicated to those who didn't have a happy childhood)

Political

Some
Writers
Have
Run out of
Ideas to write

Why?

In the
Absence
Of politics
They have
Nothing to
Write ;-)

(thinking of those people who only write on politics, thanks to our politicians, they have plenty to write ;-) and so in this poem, I'm imagining their plight in a world without politics)

Can You?

Can you
Leave
Your
Body
And
Come
To me?

Flights
Are
Pricey :)
You see

Souls
Can
Fly
Thru
The
Air
And
Of course,
It will all be
Free :-)

So,
Can you
Come
Flying
To me?

;-)

Theme could be Travel ;-)

Feedback

How come
Feedback
Is encouraging
People to
Write?

I just
Write
For the
Love of
Writing.

I don't
Need
Any
Feedback
To write ;-)

(my thoughts on some websites wherein readers are being urged to leave comments because it encourages writers)

Tick-Tock

Tick-Tock
Tick-Tock
Time is
Running
Out,
Telling you
To do your
Best -
Till your
Time...
Also
Runs out

(Here "your time also runs out" means Death)

Sightseeing

Seeing
History
I slowly
Realise
That I'm
Also
Becoming
Part of
History

Best

You are
Your
Best
Friend

Nobody
Else
Can be
Your
Best
Friend

As you
Know
Yourself
Best -
From
All of the
Rest :-)

(The 1st Sunday of August is celebrated as Friendship Day, and so I wish all my Blog readers a Happy Friendship Day :)

Life

My son
Was once
Photographed
By me

Now
He's
Grown up
And indulges
In Photography

_________

Theme: Cycle

(based on the maxim - history repeats itself...)

Poem written after observing my 14 year old son clicking snaps in our garden

Working

Come
Rain
Or shine
They keep
Working
All the time

Who?

The builders
Building
Houses of
Yours and
Mine

________

Theme: Labour

(thinking of the daily wage earners in India who keep slogging to build palatial homes, shopping malls and complexes; working day and night, moving from one construction site to another, making those unfinished structures their temporary homes till their completion, and then moving on to build new houses and high-rise buildings. In a way, they are nomads, living a nomadic life, shifting from one building site to another, with no permanent home.)
