Chatterjee

Basu Chatterjee and Sarat Chandra Chatterjee

Why I remembered them?

Because yesterday I saw Swami (1977)

Shabana Azmi won the Filmfare best actress award for her brilliant portrayal of Saudamini, the award for Best Director went to Basu Chatterjee and the Best Story award was for Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. Girish Karnad, Sudha Shivpuri, Shashikala and Dheeraj Kumar also emoted well in this movie. The cinematography was great as there was a lot of greenery and wondrous nature pics shown in verdant, rural scenes and settings.

This film has 2 of my favourite songs - Yaadon Mein Woh, Sapno Mein Hai by Kishore Kumar and Pal Bhar Mein Yeh Kya Ho Gaya by Lata Mangeshkar. Both these beautiful songs have been written by lyricist Amit Khanna and the soulful music has been given by Rajesh Roshan.

You can see this marvellous movie with English subtitles here. It runs for a little over 2 hours.

Superb Documentary

It's about some modern, independent and intellectual women committing themselves to a life of poverty, obedience and celibacy in a nunnery. I loved the visuals, the marvellous views of Whitby, a parish in North Yorkshire. I enjoyed the conversations that Stacey Dooley has with the nuns. It was inspiring to see the simple and frugal life they live in the priory and how their thoughts and beliefs have shaped their chosen way of life.

This film runs for about an hour. It also has English subtitles to help you understand the accent.

Happy Viewing :-)
