Poesy

Thought of
Dedicating
A poesy to
You....

You are so
Sweet, how
Could I not
Write about
You....

You are the
Sweetest
Mother-in-law
On Earth

Often I wish
You were my
Mother who
Brought me
To this earth

Seeing your
Love for your
Son and daughter
Inspires me....

The immense
Patience and
Tolerance you
Have in loving
Them, impresses
Me....

You are such a
Simple lady, albeit
A bit superstitious
And somewhat
Orthodox, but very
Religious....

Your unshakable faith
In God, amazes me....

Now that you are
Old and infirm, it
Worries me, for I
Love having you
In my life, you are
The 'Ma' I would
Always want to
Have with me....

My Dolly

My Dolly,

Morning
I see you

Evening
I see you

Still I
Can't
Get to see
Enough of you

Wish
In the noon
You could
Pop in from
School

For me
To see
A bit more
Of you

:-)

(Dedicated to my daughter Kochi who's like a doll to me :-)

Nowadays, she calls herself Gisu (G pronounced as in Glue and eesoo) and me a rhyming name Misu (meesoo) as she misses me in school :-)

Poetry & Photography by Aparna Chatterjee

Every Day

Every day
I have to
Inspire
Myself
To cook
As there's
Nobody else
To cook

Wrote this thinking about my cooking routine. Hubby's too busy with work to cook. Children are too busy with studies to cook. So I'm the only one who has to spare the time to cook. Back home in India, we all used to take turns to cook (I, my mother, my father and our visiting relatives) and so cooking didn't seem to be a chore and I used to love cooking :-) Now it has become a daily drudgery, having cooked here for more than 15 years and so when I want to have some food made by someone else (kisi aur ke haath ka khana), then I have to bank on takeaways and home deliveries.

Know

Does
Anyone
Know
How I’ll
Die?

Maybe
God knows
How I’ll die

But he
Won't
Tell me
How I’ll
Die...

Why?

'Cause
He's very
Secretive

That's why!

;-)

Canada

Canada

USA Giye

Ki Korbo
_______________________

Why go to
Canada or
USA?

What shall I
Do there?

When my
Mind remains
Always with you

Why go anywhere?

Another version could be:

What shall
I do by going
To Canada
Or USA,
When from
You I can
Never stay
Away...!!!

Born

Do I

Want to be
Born again
In this
Unsafe
World?

No.

Do I have
A choice?

No.

God who
Takes care
Of all our safety
Will again send me
As if to show me
How he really cares
For me ;-)

The

The whole
World is
Speaking

Let me be
Silent

For when I
Start speaking

The whole
World will
Go silent

(pertaining to God's silence)

Why?

Why do
I live in
A perpetual
State of
Denial?

The reason
Is simple.

Reality
Bites me.

(Theme: Escapism)

Gorges

Her
Husband
Left her
With so
Much of
Bitterness
That she now
Gorges on
Chocolates
To get some
Sweetness

(written after visiting an acquaintance of ours who indulges in a lot of comfort eating to fill up the emptiness left by the strained relation with her ex-husband)

Want

Do you
Really
Want to
Meet me?

Then you
Need to
Talk to my
Walkie-Talkie
Diary, my
Calendar Girl
My Secretary

Who's She?

My wife
Sweetie
:-)

(Wrote this poem today when one of my hubby's friends called up to arrange a meeting / rendezvous and my hubby passed on the task to me as he had no clue when he would be free ;-) He remains ever so busy with his office tasks that all his home schedules, invitations and appointments are arranged by me :-) Sweetie is what he calls me.

His Face

He has
A very
Serene
Face

Whenever
I get restless
I see his face

Relaxation
Sets in....
And I thank
His face

New

The students
Are saying
Hello :-)
To each other
So are the
Parents

It's a new
School :-)
For all of us

So we are
Getting
Acquainted
With each other

(Wrote this after attending my daughter's Induction Day. She'll be going to Secondary school this year.)

Those

Those
Belongings
That belonged
To him...
Make me
Feel that I
Still belong
To him...

Vivid

That vivid
Dream of
Me being
In Kolkata
And gazing
At the Ganges

Made me realise
That a part of me
Still belongs to the
Ganges

Find

People
Are
Visiting
Various
Places
To find
Peace

I just
Want to
Live in your
Heart to
Find peace

Her

Her
Photo
Full of
Pain...
Made me
Realise
There were
Lots of
Droughts
In her life
Not much
Rain...

Muted

Separated
Widowed
Divorced
Women
With their
Muted
Sex drives

Where do they
Go to satiate
Their drives?

Or do they remain
Frustrated with their
Frustrating sex drives

For the sake of
Sticking to the label
Of propriety in this
Primitive, puritanical
Society

(pertaining to some sections of our Asian society that abound with hypocrisy and double standards)

Nobody

When
There's
Nobody
To talk to
Even the
Postman
Would do

(wrote this after seeing an elderly neighbour who lives on his own and looks out for people to have a chat)

Height

Height of
Sycophancy?

Don't need to
Go to Indian
Offices....

In Facebook,
You can see
;-)

Themes could be Flattery / Buttering / Toadyism / Flummery / Puffery

Gone

Gone are the
Days when
The wife...
Would just
Deck up
For her
Hubby to
Enjoy :-)

Thanks to
Social media
Now she
Decks up
For the whole
World to
Enjoy :-)

Survivor

Sometimes
I feel, I'm the
Only one
Fighting for
Life
The rest have
All given up
On life

Theme: Survival

(wrote these lines thinking about the sailor in this scene)

Blame

Nothing
Goes your
Way

Blame it
On God

As if
All your
Problems
Have been
Created
By God
And will be
Sorted by
God

I Feel

I feel your
Embrace ~
All over me

Death,
You've
Finally
Come to
Rescue
Me ~

Never

You'll never
Know who
Am I when
I write....

I may be
He, she
You or me
When I write

(Theme: Role-Playing, pertaining to many of my poems)

In

In every
Moving
Car, I
Want to
See you
As if my
Moving eyes
Keep moving
Only to
See you

(Theme could be Desire / Longing / Yearning)

Gadgets

Gadgets
And
Gizmos
Occupy
Us in this
World

Don't know
What occupies
Them in the
Other world

(here 'them' refers to the dead and the departed)

Not

So many
Instances
Telling me
I'm not well

I've finally
Accepted
The fact
That I'm
Not well

(Theme could be Observation / Experience / Health)

Heavy

With a
Heavy
Heart
I take
Leave
Of you
And let
Myself
Know...
I'll never
See you

(Theme could be Parting / Departure / Separation)

Let's

Let's
Pick up
The pieces
From where
You left me
And then
Piece it all
Together
How you
Left me

(Theme: Retrospection)

Saddest

The saddest
Part of our
Relationship
Is:
I can never
Wish him
Well
For he
Made me
Feel so
Unwell.

Your

Your memory
Is like the
Plop of a
Bird's pooh
On my
Window
When I'm
Looking
Through

(Theme could be Interruption / Disruption / Distraction caused by some sordid memory)

Restless

When you
Get restless
You'll come
Back to me
As you know
Here is where
Peace will be

Slowly

Slowly,
Slowly
It will
Heal
My
Friend

By the
Time, you
Die, it will
Seal, my
Friend

(pertaining to a wounded mind / heart)

Gift

Gift a
Bouquet of
Beautiful
Memories
To your
Children
'Cause
That is
What will
Live with them
When you are
No longer
With them

(Theme: Legacy)

If You

If you
Don't
Have
The time
To talk
To your
Children

All sorts
Of strangers
Will talk to
Your children

And then
You'll never
Know how
You'll lose
Your children

So please
Make some time
To talk to your children

(addressed to all busy parents)

Grateful

The more I
Think of him
The more I
Feel grateful
To him....
For giving us
This life that
We all owe
To him :-)

(dedicated to my husband who's also a loving father to his children)

Confidence

That
Confidence
To say to
My children
That you'll
Like it
The way
I'll make it
Boosts my
Confidence
That I can
Make it

(refers to how I make food for them)

You

You would
Go away
From me
And come
Back to me

Such is the
Power of
Attraction

You won't be
Able to live
Without me

I Like

I like men

With a
Sense of
Humour
As humour
Helps to
Bring us
Closer ;-)

Some

Some people
Have nothing
To do, so they
Write poetry
For me and
You :-)

LOL :D

Theme could be Humour

Another version could be

Some people
Have nothing
To do, so they
Write poetry
Like me and
You ;-)

Happy choosing the version that you can relate to....

Rendezvous

It seems
In the most
Unlikely of
Places, I'll
Meet you

At the
Gates of
Heaven and
Hell, I'll meet
You

Happiest

I'm the
Happiest
When I
Write :-)

Keeps all
Those worries
Out of sight
;-)

Overbuilt

Overbuilt
Muscles
Testosterones
Flowing....

It's a
Men's
Gym
Where
I'm going

(Actually, I go to a unisex gym but there are so many men and hardly any women, it seems to me a Men's Gym ;-)

Nowadays

Nowadays
I'm talking
Sweetly...
All the time

Why?

'Cause
I'm having
Jalebis :-)
All the time
:D

Theme: Humour

BTW, I love Jalebis :-) though I try limiting myself having them lest I get Diabetes ;-)
